Anders Olsson to take on new role no later than 8 July; will oversee newly-formed Global Services & Operations division.
TeliaSonera on Tuesday appointed Tele2’s Anders Olsson as its new chief operating officer.
Olsson, who currently serves as EVP of strategic projects at Tele2 – a company he joined in 1997 – and will step down with immediate effect. He is due to take on his new role no later than 8 July.
"I am very pleased that we have been able to attract Anders to join TeliaSonera. He has a long career in a successful company and his leadership and experience will be very valuable in the next phase of [the] shaping of TeliaSonera," said TeliaSonera CEO Johan Dennelind, in a statement.
"I would like to thank Anders for his commitment and contributions to Tele2 over the past 19 years. He leaves a legacy that he should be very proud of, and myself and the Tele2 family wishes him every success in the future," said Tele2 CEO Allison Kirkby, in a separate statement.
Olsson will be in charge of TeliaSonera’s Global Services & Operations (GSO) unit, which was formed from the merger in October of the telco’s Group Technology and Group Commercial divisions. GSO also encompasses the wholesale business, TeliaSonera International Carrier.
The new operating structure took effect on 1 January, and until now has been headed-up on an interim basis by Sören Abildgaard, who was previously CEO of Telia Denmark.
"Among other things GSO will be responsible for creating new businesses, exploring potential revenue streams and long term investment opportunities. In doing so it will work closely with the country operations within the TeliaSonera group to make sure that services, networks and architecture are future proof, secure and add value," TeliaSonera said.
