Tesla board member to become Australian incumbent’s permanent replacement for Kate McKenzie in early 2017.

Telstra this week appointed Juniper Networks’ former finance and operating chief Robyn Denholm as its new COO.

She served in her previous role from 2007 until the middle of this year; Telstra credited her with leading the network equipment maker’s 2014 turnaround. Before Juniper, Denholm spent 11 years at Sun Microsystems, serving most recently as SVP of corporate strategic planning.

"Robyn has a proven track record as a global COO in a business focused on telecommunication networks," said Telstra CEO Andrew Penn, in a statement on Monday. "She has overseen business model transformation, supply chain and broader business process re-engineering."

Denholm also sits on the boards of electric car maker Tesla Motors, and ABB, the Swiss power, robotics, and tech firm.

She will take up her new role at Telstra in early 2017, replacing Kate McKenzie, who stepped down in July. Brendon Riley, Telstra’s group executive for global enterprise and services, has been interim COO since then.

Upon Denholm’s arrival, Riley will return to his previous role, and David Burns, who has been filling in for Riley, will return to his role as group managing director of network applications and services.

"These arrangements demonstrate the depth of our management team. I am grateful for Brendon and David for outstanding work in their acting roles and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them in their permanent roles," Penn said.
