Australian incumbent scrambles to restore fixed-line service following widespread issues.
Telstra customers across Australia were left without fixed voice and Internet services on Friday after the telco suffered yet another network outage.
"We’re aware that some NBN and ADSL customers may have difficulty connecting to the Internet. We’re working to restore services ASAP and apologise for any inconvenience," said Telstra, on its Website.
It is not clear how many subscribers were affected. Updates on the firm’s Website indicated that by early afternoon, service was still being restored in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.
Total Telecom reached out to Telstra but has yet to hear back.
For Telstra, this is the fourth significant network outage so far this year; the first three affected mobile customers. By way of compensation, the company held two free data days, giving customers free, unlimited mobile data access.
In April, COO Kate McKenzie revealed that Telstra and its hardware partners – Cisco, Ericsson and Juniper – had assembled a team of engineers in order to conduct "an end-to-end review" of its network.
"Our focus is on ensuring our network is the best available and rebuilding our customers’ trust by meeting their expectations every day," she said at the time.
