U.S. telco’s wireline network president Bob Mudge to head up Boston fibre rollout, XO Communications integration.

Verizon late on Tuesday made further management changes following the appointment of ex-O2 UK chief Ronan Dunne as president of Verizon Wireless.

Bob Mudge, president of Verizon’s fixed-line operations, has been appointed to head up two projects.

The first is the planning and execution of Verizon’s US$1.8 billion (€1.6 billion) acquisition of XO Communications’ fibre business, which was announced back in February and is due to close in the first half of 2017. The second is Verizon’s $300 million fibre network rollout in Boston.

"Bob is the most capable leader" for these two "network-centric" projects, said John Stratton, president of operations at Verizon, in a statement emailed to Total Telecom.

With Mudge otherwise occupied, David Small, who is currently executive vice president of wireless operations at Verizon Wireless, will succeed him as president of the telco’s wireline network operations (WNO).

Both appointments are effective immediately, Verizon said.

The news emerged hours after Verizon named former O2 UK CEO Ronan Dunne as the new president of Verizon Wireless.

Dunne resigned his position at O2 in mid-July and formally stepped down on Monday. He is currently serving in an advisory role at O2 until he starts his new job at Verizon in September.

Dunne will work under Stratton, who has been in overall charge of Verizon’s fixed and mobile operations since February 2015 following the retirement of Verizon Wireless chief Daniel Mead.
