Cableco tempts prospective customers with introductory price that undercuts rivals.
Virgin Media Ireland has increased the top speed of its fixed broadband service to 360 Mbps and launched a temporary discount that undercuts its rivals’ ultrafast broadband tariffs.
Available to 750,000 homes on an 18-month contract, the service costs €30 per month for the first four months and €60 per month for the remaining 14 months. Customers will also get free calls to landlines and mobiles in 22 countries including Ireland.
By comparison, rival Vodafone’s new LightSpeed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service, which is still in the early stages of commercial rollout, starts at €49 per month for a minimum speed of 350 Mbps, while a 1-Gbps plan costs €111.
Meanwhile, incumbent Eir’s entry-level FTTH plan costs €50 for the first three months, rising to €87 thereafter; however, customers can get speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
"We promised you magic and that’s what we’re delivering with our new sky-ripping 360 Mbps. Now you can enjoy buffer-free entertainment as you surf, stream and chat like never before," said Bill Blake, head of commercial and products at Virgin Media Ireland, in a statement last week.
