MVNO focuses on 18-34s, offering simple, contract-free data plans.

Virgin Mobile this week added to its Latin American footprint, announcing the launch of mobile services in Peru.

Peru becomes the fourth market in the mobile virtual network operator’s (MVNO’s) Latin American business, after Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and its 12th overall. It now serves 17 million customers in total.

Virgin Mobile Peru will follow the same pattern as the group’s other operations, focusing on offering contract-free data plans to those in the 18-34 age group, according to company CEO Steve Logue, who pledged "no small print or tricks."

The operator’s Website indicates it is charging 0.10 Peruvian sols (€0.03) per MB of data, PEN0.49 per minute for voice calls, and PEN0.10 per message.

Bundles start at PEN25 (€6.74) per month for 200 MB of data, 40 minutes of voice calls, 50 SMS and unlimited Facebook and WhatsApp usage. The telco is also offering plans costing PEN30 and PEN50 per month.

"We look forward to continuing our blazing track record of success in Latin America with the launch of Virgin Mobile Peru," said Virgin Mobile Latin America chief executive Peter Macnee.

"The pre-launch interest we have seen from Peruvians is beyond anything we witnessed in the other markets," he said.
