Premium Red plan includes unlimited roaming services for incoming and outgoing calls.

Vodafone India launched a new range of “all-in-one” Red plans that also included unlimited roaming services for incoming and outgoing calls.

Local media noted that the new plans are a pre-emptive move ahead of the commercial launch of the Reliance Jio 4G service, which has promised limited periods of free Internet and calling. International Business Times described it as the Reliance Jio 4G effect, which has prompted rivals such as Airtel, BSNL and now Vodafone India to launch disruptive price plans and 4G services.

The premium Vodafone Red plan includes unlimited roaming services, unlimited voice calling and 8 GB of data for 1,999 rupees (€23) a month. A variant of this plan is also available at 1,699 rupees offering free roaming but for incoming calls only, unlimited voice calling and 6 GB data.

Other entry-level Red tariffs are also available, starting at 499 rupees a month for 1 GB of data. Elements of free voice roaming are only included in plans starting from 1,299 rupees.

Sandeep Kataria, director of commercial at Vodafone India, noted that the usage behaviour of postpaid customers has evolved significantly with higher usage of roaming and data and stressed a “worry-free” message with the plans.

We are offering our postpaid customers an all-in-one plan that addresses their roaming, data, and voice needs comprehensively,” he said.

As well as India, Vodafone has rolled out its Red strategy in a number of European markets and the brand has come to represent the operator’s flagship smartphone plans that focus on inclusive value-added services and content as well as customer support.
