Telco says offer is mark of confidence in its network, services.

Vodafone UK this week launched a 30-day cooling-off period that allows new customers to walk away from their service plan free of charge, no questions asked.

The offer is open to new and upgrading consumer and small business customers signing up to a postpaid or prepaid tariff. To qualify, the price plan needs to have been sold through one of Vodafone’s direct sales channels, such as a shop, online store, or over the phone.

Vodafone said the offer is a mark of confidence in its network and services.

"This industry first guarantee, for all new and upgrading mobile customers, truly puts the needs of our customers at the heart of our business," said Jeroen Hoencamp, CEO of Vodafone UK, in a statement. "We’ve invested heavily in our network and services over the past few years so we’re now giving our customers the freedom to really test the strength and speed of our network across the U.K. and, if they’re not totally happy, they can come back to us within 30 days and we’ll cancel their agreement – no questions asked."

Vodafone said its offer goes above and beyond what customers are legally entitled to.

Indeed, under U.K. law, mobile customers have a legal right to a 14-day cooling-off period, which allows them to walk away from a service plan without penalty, provided they signed up to that service over the phone or online.

In addition, mobile operators must give affected customers 30 days’ notice of any price increases. In the event that the customer signed up after 23 January 2014, and provided they weren’t informed of any impending price rises at the start of their contract, then customers have the legal right to cancel their service within that 30-day notice period.
