AbdulGhaffar Setareh tasked with building on telco’s group-wide risk management strategy.
Zain on Monday appointed its first ever chief risk officer (CRO) in a bid to avoid the potential pitfalls facing the telco’s various subsidiaries.
AbdulGhaffar Setareh, who joined Zain as a transmission engineer in 1995 and has most recently been director of the company’s risk department, has been given the new role. As CRO, it is his job to enhance and implement the group’s risk management strategy, and generally promote a risk-management culture throughout the company.
"Risk management is a top priority at Zain and critical to the company’s future prosperity," said Zain CEO Scott Gegenheimer, in a statement.
"I appreciate the confidence that has been placed in me… and [I] look forward to further strengthening the company’s risk management capabilities," added Setareh.
During his tenure to date, Setareh has established an enterprise-wide risk management framework for all business units at every level across Zain. He has also implemented a group-wide information security and business continuity management strategy, and overseen an insurance programme for 16,000 employees and their families.
"Mr. Setareh’s extensive experience will ensure we continue to enhance the operational effectiveness of the group’s risk oversight and control assurance processes, which is critical to our efforts to transform into an integrated digital lifestyle operator, with a particular emphasis on enterprise solutions," Gegenheimer said.
