Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg this week celebrated reaching more than 1 billion daily active users.
"On Monday, one in seven people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family," he announced on the social network.
According to Facebook’s financial reports, daily active users (DAUs) averaged 968 million during June. Of those DAUs, 844 million accessed Facebook via a mobile device.
A year earlier, those figures stood at 829 million and 654 million respectively.
"When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different," said Zuckerberg. "This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world."
On a monthly basis, 1.5 billion people on average accessed Facebook in the three months to 30 June, up from 1.3 billion in the same period a year ago.
"I’m so proud of our community for the progress we’ve made," gushed Zuckerberg. "Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world."
