Optical networking vendor announces acquisition of Overture Networks.
ADVA Optical Networking on Wednesday announced that it has acquired NFV specialist Overture Networks for an undisclosed sum.
The deal brings together two of the industry’s largest manufacturers of carrier Ethernet access equipment, ADVA said.
It explained that the acquisition expands its cloud access solution portfolio, enables it to provide a complete network functions virtualisation (NFV) architecture to telco customers, and significantly increases its North American footprint.
The deal creates a number one player in Ethernet access devices, said Brian Protiva, chief executive of ADVA Optical Networking.
"There’s a full account and product synergy between our companies, ensuring a complete solution set for business Ethernet, mobile backhaul and carrier wholesale applications that can be sold into each other’s customer base," he said.
In addition, "we have a shared vision for the future of the cloud services market and the virtualised network," he said. "Adding Overture’s NFV-pure-play and orchestration solutions to our hybrid NFV solutions, operators can select what best fits their plans."
ADVA said that taking over Overture enables it to add an Ethernet-over-copper solution to its FSP 150 product family.
As a result, it is able to deliver carrier Eternet-based cloud services in a hybrid or pure-play NFV environment, "something nobody else in the industry can offer," ADVA claimed.
