Vendor to serve as integrator to help U.S. telco market its ECOMP platform on a global basis.
Amdocs this week announced it will act as the integrator for companies and cloud developers who want to use AT&T’s home grown SDN platform.
A fortnight ago AT&T committed to making its so-called ECOMP platform available in open source and on Tuesday Amdocs revealed that it will help companies deploy that open source software in their own networks.
The ECOMP – or Enhanced Control, Orchestration, Management and Policy – platform underpins AT&T’s software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualisation (NFV) strategy.
The telco has implemented ECOMP in its own software-based network and will work with Amdocs to market the platform globally, Amdocs explained. The pair will collaborate on the development of the platform going forward, contributing to standardisation initiatives and the open source community, the vendor said.
Amdocs became an early collaborator on ECOMP a few months ago, said Chris Rice, vice president of advanced technologies and architecture at AT&T Labs.
"We believe ECOMP will set the standard for virtual network [function] (VNF) automation, and Amdocs will support the growth of the platform as more and more service providers begin using it," Rice said.
Greater service agility is at the heart of the ECOMP initiative, added Anthony Goonetilleke, AT&T division president at Amdocs.
"Together, we will deliver the ECOMP platform to the industry to simplify network environments and drive operational and capital savings, while continuing to accelerate service innovation and network value through agile software-powered networks," he said.
