Acting chief executive awarded post on a permanent basis.

Batelco late last month named a permanent group chief executive in the shape of Ihab Hinnawi, who has been serving as its interim leader for almost a year.

Hinnawi took on the role of acting CEO in February last year on the departure of former CEO Alan Whelan, who left the Bahrain-based telecoms group after less than a year in the top job.

In the months he has spent as acting CEO, Hinnawi "has shown excellent leadership skills in directing operations across the group’s 14 geographies," Batelco said, in a statement. The telco’s board is happy with his performance and dedication to the role, and has therefore decided to grant him the job on a permanent basis, it added.

Hinnawi has spent a number of years in leadership positions at the Batelco group in Jordan. He has in the past served as chief executive of Batelco Jordan and as head of its enterprise business. He has also been CEO of the Umniah business in Jordan since 2009.

His experience covers areas such as increasing revenue, effecting management change and restructuring, developing new business, managing top-level negotiations, and developing key partnerships, Batelco said.

"[The] Batelco board of directors congratulates Mr. Hinnawi on his successful career with Batelco and Umniah including his success in holding the dual roles at the helm of Umniah and also Batelco Group during 2015," the operator said.

"The board wishes him every success as he continues with the task of running the group’s operations."
