U.K. incumbent says it will name Nigel Stagg’s replacement in due course.

Nigel Stagg, CEO of BT Wholesale, is leaving the company, the U.K. incumbent announced on Friday.

Having spent 36 years at BT in various roles, Stagg is off to "explore other options," BT said, without elaborating on his future plans.

Stagg’s stint at BT has included high-level positions within its conferencing, enterprise, retail customer service and business operations. He took on the top job at BT Wholesale in 2011.

In a canned statement, he made the usual positive comments about his time with the company.

Similarly, BT chief executive Gavin Patterson thanked Stagg for his service to the firm.

"Nigel has made a terrific contribution over many years," Patterson said. "He has brought a wealth of commercial and operational skills and experience to all the roles he has held and he has helped us propel the company forwards."

BT said it will name Stagg’s successor "in due course".

The announcement came at a particularly busy time for BT, which has just announced the completion of its £12.5 billion takeover of mobile operator EE.
