CALLUP, a provider of Value Added Services (VAS) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions for the telecom industry, is expanding its presence in South and Central America. Recently, the company’s Voice Mail System (CALLUP VMS™) was selected by two mobile operators in Latin America and the Caribbean. CALLUP VMS™ is part of the CALLUP CanVAS platform, which offers complete and modern messaging and voice solutions for both mobile carriers and end users.

These new contracts follow CALLUP’s major win in Latin America, last year, at Chile’s WOM mobile operator (formerly Nextel Chile). WOM installed CALLUP’s remote SIM cards management system – SIM OTA.

Christopher Bannister, CEO of WOM, said that “WOM selected CALLUP’s SIM OTA for its superb quality and capabilities, and for CALLUP’s strong reputation. CALLUP’s SIM OTA allows us to manage our SIM cards more effectively, helps us in our growth plans, and enhances our competitiveness and customer service, saving time, effort and resources.”

CALLUP’s SIM OTA is also becoming popular in Europe. One of the European companies that selected SIM OTA is EE, the UK’s largest mobile operator (part of BT Group). Lee Chard, Senior Designer, SIM Technology, EE, says: “As the UK’s largest mobile operator, adding more customers onto our 4G network all the time, it is very important for us to assure optimal 24/7 control of our tens of millions of SIM cards. CALLUP’s SIM OTA is an excellent, extremely advanced, high quality system, which will help us to provide the best network and service to our customers."

Another example of a European mobile operator that selected CALLUP’s SIM OTA is Play (P4), Poland’s fastest growing mobile communication service provider. According to Andrzej Milkowski, Network Planning Director at Play: “As a very fast growing mobile operator, we needed a system that would support our growth and manage our millions of SIM cards in the most reliable way. After examining various solutions we decided to select CALLUP’s SIM OTA for its reliability and advanced features, coupled with CALLUP’s experience and openness for system development. We are satisfied with CALLUP’s SIM OTA system, and it helps us enhance our customer services and effectiveness.”

CALLUP’s SIM OTA platform enables WOM to take complete control of mobile operators’ SIM cards and dongles by remote means. The cost-effective platform remotely manages a SIM card’s entire life cycle – from activation of new accounts, through various upgrades and roaming updates, to SIM card cancellation and swap. Using a user-friendly interface that is SIM vendor agnostic, the SIM OTA comprises various features and capabilities, such as secure Remote File Management, Remote Applet Management, Steering of Roaming, Location Tracking, Welcome SMS, and other remote, over the air SIM operations.

A cost-effective solution, CALLUP’s SIM OTA includes a built-in Short Message Service Center (SMSC) to manage all the SIM OTA settings. The platform supports remote management of SIM cards over the air through the web site.

A smart campaign management system enables the mobile operator to update parameters remotely on all of its SIM cards. The system will automatically repeat the update process on SIM cards that could not accept the original update for various reasons, such as devices that were turned off or subscribers who were out of the coverage area.

Compliance with NFV Virtualization Architecture and OpenStack Open Source Cloud Platform

Recently, CALLUP announced compliance with the NFV virtualization architecture and the OpenStack open source cloud platform. This compliance enables mobile operators to deploy new services rapidly on existing equipment, without adding dedicated new hardware and to make optimal use of services deployed in the cloud.

NFV (Network Function Virtualization) architecture allows mobile operators to be at the forefront of innovation and to deliver new services with optimal return on investment. It also allows the most efficient use of resources and services, while reducing the time and cost required to deploy them.

Today, an increasing number of mobile operators are adopting virtual architectures and applying virtual networks based on the OpenStack environment, resulting in significant operational savings.

CanVAS in the Cloud

CALLUP provides its solutions as stand-alone products that are installed at the operator’s facility, and some solutions can be used as cloud-based services, according to the operator’s preferences. Called CanVAS in the Cloud, these cloud-based services can be self-tailored by the operator, within minutes, through an innovative wizard. The cloud-based services include voice mail, interactive voice response, SMS and MMS centers, personal ring back tone, multimedia transcoding gateway and more. Operators pay only according to usage, avoiding buying extra hardware for peak days or extra software licenses in advance. The operator monitors its own application, while CALLUP is responsible for availability and upgrades.

Wi-Fi Calling and Smart Fi

CALLUP provides additional innovative value added services for mobile operators. CALLUP Wi Fi Calling system solves one of the most critical problems in the cellular industry: poor cellular phone coverage in buildings. CALLUP Wi-Fi Calling enables operators to take advantage of subscribers’ routine connection to their Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing them to use their cell phones for voice calls, text messages and rich communication services over the IP network.

Another solution in the Wi-Fi sphere is Smart Fi – an innovative, carrier-grade system for data offloading. The system allows cellular operators to offer their customers seamless and automatic access to Wi-Fi hotspots for data communications, without requiring any proactive steps from the user.

Steering of Roaming and Roam Home Callback

CALLUP’s Steering of Roaming solution (CALLUP SoR) enables mobile carriers to control roaming partners optimally, and to ensure that their subscribers’ devices are connected to the carrier’s preferred partners while roaming. CALLUP SoR is a hybrid platform using a combination of SS7 and Over the Air (OTA) techniques, and can be installed in the cloud, as well as on the operator’s network. It supports all access technologies – 2G, 3G and 4G.

Another solution in the roaming sphere is Roam Home Callback, a seamless, low-cost, complementary roaming service, mimicking a normal call experience. The solution seamlessly captures a callback call and optimizes it by mimicking an outgoing call, while using the existing USSD callback call.

CALLUP was founded in 1999 and is a subsidiary of the One1 Group, headquartered in Israel and listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE: ONE). CALLUP’s customer base spans the globe and includes fixed, mobile, VoIP telecom operators, MVNEs and MVNOs, as well as leading telecom providers that CALLUP serves as an OEM.
