Ericsson on Monday announced two separate mobile network infrastructure deals in Indonesia, both of which are linked to 4G rollout.

The Swedish equipment maker was contracted by Indonesian mobile operator Telkomsel as part of its network modernisation project.

The telco is upgrading its GSM and WCDMA/HSPA networks to improve customer experienc e and prepare for the rollout of LTE services in Indonesia’s Kalimantan region.

"The transformation of Telkomsel’s network will ensure its mobile data subscribers, especially those living in dense areas, will benefit from faster speeds and better network performance," said Thomas Jul, head of Ericsson Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

Under the terms of the deal, Ericsson will supply equipment from its RBS 6000 mobile base station family.

It will also provide equipment from the same series for Ooredoo-owned Indosat for an LTE network deployment in Greater Jakarta.

The deal covers 2G, 3G and 4G network technology and network performance optimisation, and is designed to help Indosat capture the opportunity presented by growing demand for mobile broadband in Indonesia, Ericsson said.

"Our consumer studies in Indonesia show that network performance is the main consideration for mobile phone users’ loyalty," Jul said.

"With the introduction of 4G/LTE and continuous optimisations of Indosat’s networks, customers will notice faster speeds – especially how quickly new connections are established, how fast Web pages load and how much more responsive applications feel," he added.
