“The FTTH Council Europe welcomes the Co mmunication on the Digital Single Market” said Edgar Aker, President of the FTTH Council Europe, “It sets out an ambitious programme of activities for the European Commission to achieve its vision with investment in digital networks front and centre.”
“The FTTH Council Europe wants to see a strong competitive network environment that will support leading edge digital innovation and services in Europe. Some parts of Europe are achieving good results in terms of FTTH network deployment, others are still in pilot phase. I believe we can learn lessons from each other”, he added. “Pillar II or ‘Creating the right conditions for digital networks and services to flourish’ will be the primary focus of the FTTH Council Europe but of course we will follow and support all work streams.”
“The FTTH Council Europe looks forward to working on the new initiatives and notes that the Digital Agenda Target speeds are now looking outdated. Higher speeds, including minimum upload speeds to support already widespread cloud services and minimum latency parameters to enable real-time execution in eHealth-services, HD video-conferencing, remote working, finance, eGaming and even to support driverless cars and other services are essential.’ said Hartwig Tauber, Director General of the FTTH Council Europe.
