Regulator calls upon existing operators and potential newcomers to come forward by 5 July.
The Greek telecoms regulator on Thursday called for expressions of interest in acquiring spectrum in the 1800 MHz band that is currently in the hands of the country’s three mobile operators but whose licences will expire soon.
All interested parties – existing operators and market newcomers – have until 5 July to come forward, the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) announced.
Companies interested in licensing the available spectrum must be able to provide certain financial guarantees, the EETT said.
The spectrum in question is currently held by Cosmote, Vodafone and Wind Hellas.
Cosmote holds 25 MHz of paired spectrum in the 1800-MHz band that is due to expire in December 2020, 25 years after it was licensed to the operator, the regulator’s documentation shows.
Vodafone and Wind, meanwhile, hold 15-year licences that will expire in August this year. Vodafone has 2×15 MHz of 1800-MHz spectrum, while Wind has the same amount, but in two separate blocks, one of 2×10 MHz and one of 2×5 MHz.
