Press Release

Award winning challenger mobile network, Honest Mobile, has announced today its certification as a B Corporation (B Corp), joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit. Honest Mobile has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company has legally embedded their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

Honest Mobile is the first certified Mobile Network in the UK and the third the world. They join a community of over 3,500 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK, comprises over 360 companies and includes well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop, and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

Increasing awareness of the impact of technology on climate change makes Honest Mobile’s B Corp certification a notable step and, alongside being the UK’s first carbon neutral mobile network, signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the sector.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says “We are delighted to welcome Honest Mobile to the B Corp community and having the UK’s first Mobile Network on board is hugely exciting!
This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good.

We know their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and help them disrupt the mobile industry and redefine success being as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.

“We set our sights on becoming a B-Corp from the day we set up Honest Mobile and we’re incredibly proud to have certified as the UK’s first B Corp Mobile Network. We’ve put purpose at the heart of Honest Mobile and we’re on a mission to change mobile for good,” said Andy Aitken, Co-Founder and CEO of Honest Mobile. “The assessment process has been rigorous and the standards held by the B Corp team and other B Corp businesses has blown us away. We’re over the moon to be joining other purpose led businesses showing the wider economy that business can be a force for good.”
