Kogan Mobile has relaunched services in Australia more than two years after the collapse of its supplier ispONE forced it out of business.

The firm has signed a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal with Vodafone and on Monday unveiled a new range of SIM-only price plans.

Its 3XL plan costs A$29.95 (€19.26) per month and comes with unlimited voice and messaging, and 3 GB of data. For A$36.95 per month users can upgrade to the 5XL plan with 5 GB of data. The company also offers a A$14.90 2 GB data plan for tablets.

Kogan Mobile had signed up 115,000 customers to its low-cost services when it was forced to pull the plug on its offering in August 2013 after less than a year in business.

It closed down after mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) ispONE went into administration and cut ties with network provider Telstra.

Telstra and Kogan Mobile failed to negotiate a direct arrangement to give the latter access to the former’s network. And Kogan wasted no time in hitting out at the incumbent – and the Australian mobile establishment in general – for forcing out smaller players.

"Kogan Mobile has been muscled out of the mobile industry against our will by a force much bigger and much stronger than us," the firm said, in a statement at the time.

"It appears like the telco heavyweights may be determined to take their former customers back and they may be prepared to do so by force," it said.

Given that it is now up and running again on Vodafone’s network, it seems Kogan Mobile has – for now, at least – buried the hatchet.
