Liquid Telecom on Thursday announced the launch of Hai, a new retail brand through which it will provide Internet services to homes and businesses in various African markets.
The telco said that Hai, which means "I am alive" in Swahili, launched in Zambia last week.
It plans to roll out the brand to Kenya and Rwanda "shortly", it said, without providing further details.
"Expanding into the retail market has become a focus for Liquid Telecom and we acquired a number of retail brands as part of our geographic expansion," said Liq uid Telecom CEO Nic Rudnick.
In May the operator took sole ownership of Zambian ISP Realtime, via its local unit CEC Liquid Telecom.
At the time it said that Realtime would become one of the first resellers of its Fibroniks fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service, which was then available to 15,600 premises in certain areas of the capital, Lusaka.
On Thursday Liquid Telecom said Hai will offer the FTTH service, as well as other Internet access options. It also has a business continuity service in its portfolio, a public WiFi hotspot offering, video on demand and online education.
