Press Release

NFON AG, the only pan-European Cloud PBX provider, has decided to establish a nearshore location for another Research & Development centre in Europe, and has chosen Portugal. In September 2020 the founding is planned in the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (Lisbon metropolitan area) with the aim to start as soon as possible to employ the first developers this year and to increase the R&D team to 30 specialists in the following year. Jan-Peter Koopmann, Chief Technology Officer of NFON AG: "With our nearshore location in Portugal we will expand and secure our competitiveness in the European market. Capacities in Research & Development are the key to highest innovative strength paired with R&D speed without limits”.

After a thorough evaluation process, Portugal was able to prevail in the decision. With a very high proportion of graduates in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology and a very good and broad integration of the English language, Portugal offers, in addition to other location advantages, a very high affinity of young employees for international development projects. As a result, the supply of developers in the areas of frontend, backend, PHP and general coding is high. This is for Markus Krammer, Vice President Products & New Business of NFON AG "the best prerequisite for the recruitment of developers who can work successfully as a team over longer periods of time, even on large projects. Portugal and especially Lisbon as a tech-hub could fully convince us in our search for a new R&D location”.

NFON AG reaches a milestone on its way to becoming the No. 1 for cloud telephony in Europe with the foundation of a further Research & Development centre. Hans Szymanski, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Financial Officer of NFON AG: "Europe needs strong and future-proof companies. Europe needs a vision whose elementary component must be a fast and reliable transformation of new technologies. NFON AG is at the forefront of digitalisation in Europe and ensures, for example in times like these, that many employees have easy and quick access to necessary home office tools and can experience mobile working at the highest level. Europe’s success also depends on the innovative ability of technology companies, our contribution is a new nearshore centre."
