Board to vote on Kazuhiro Yoshizawa’s promotion on 16 June as part of management overhaul.

NTT DoCoMo has announced a new CEO as part of a broader executive overhaul to freshen up the Japanese operator’s management.

Kazuhiro Yoshizawa, has been named CEO. He joined DoCoMo in 1979 and currently holds the positions of chief information officer, chief information security officer, and chief privacy officer. He is also a senior executive vice president in charge of the telco’s technology, device and information strategy.

Yoshizawa will replace incumbent Kaoru Kato, who is expected to remain as a member of the board and become a corporate advisor. Yoshikiyo Sakai, managing director of sales and marketing, is also stepping down, and will take up a new role at NTT Finance Corporation.

Shareholders are due to vote on the changes at a meeting on 16 June.

In a brief statement, DoCoMo said the reason for the changes are "to further grow and develop the company under the new management setup."

Yoshizawa’s current myriad duties will be assumed by Hiroyasu Asami, who until now has served as managing director of DoCoMo’s corporate strategy and planning department.

A new CEO is just one of many proposed changes to DoCoMo’s leadership team.

A list of six new board candidates has also been put forward, as well as six new senior vice presidents.

A full list of proposed changes can be found on DoCoMo’s Website.
