Outgoing O2 UK chief to take on new job at U.S. operator in September.
Verizon on Tuesday revealed that former O2 UK chief executive Ronan Dunne will become president of Verizon Wireless.
Dunne announced his resignation from O2 in mid-July and stepped down from his position on Monday. He will serve in an advisory role at O2 until he starts his new job at Verizon in September.
"Ronan brings a wealth of expertise, as well as global wireless perspective and experience to Verizon Wireless," said a statement from John Stratton, EVP and president of operations at Verizon, and Dunne’s new boss.
Dunne, who served as CEO of O2 UK for eight years, planned to step down if the proposed merger between his company and smaller rival 3UK went ahead.
However, that deal was blocked by the European Commission, prompting a strategic review of O2’s options. Dunne announced his resignation following the completion of that review.
At Verizon, Dunne will hold overall responsibility for all aspects of the mobile business, including marketing, wireless and network operations, digital operations, and customer care.
"He has a proven track record of performance in highly competitive environments. We look forward to his leadership as Verizon continues to invest in and evolve our wireless business to provide the best experience for our customers," Stratton said.
