Sparkle, the first international service provider in Italy and among the top global operators, adheres also this year to “YEP – Young Women Empowerment Program”, an initiative promoted by the Fondazione Ortygia Business School to support the personal and professional growth of female university students in Southern Italy. As part of the project, Sparkle will accompany the development of young women in Sicily, which has always been a strategic region for the operator.
Born from an idea by Lucrezia Reichlin, President and Co-Founder of Ortygia Business School, the Young Women Empowerment Program intends to offer the new generations useful tools to guide their academic and career choices, develop merit and promote ambition and confidence in the future.
In this context, ten Sicilian students enrolled in master’s degree courses in economic and scientific disciplines at the University of Palermo and the University of Catania will be supported by as many Sparkle managers through individual mentoring sessions during which they, in addition to becoming aware of their potential to propose themselves in the world of work with greater awareness, they will have the opportunity to come into contact with a high-tech working reality with solid roots in the territory.
It is in fact in Sicily that Sparkle has developed, through the two poles of Palermo and Catania, the main internet hub in the Mediterranean, the heart of technological innovation and a gateway for traffic from and to Europe for Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The regional capital hosts the Sicily Hub, a latest generation neutral data center, while the Sicily Lab, a hyper-convergent data center and technological innovation laboratory, is located in Catania.
In the previous edition, the dialogue between students and Sparkle mentors was stimulating and constructive for both parties and continued also at the end of the program, establishing a concrete bridge between the university and the world of work. The experience was presented at the Global Carrier Awards international competition, ranking among the finalists in the "Best Inclusion & Diversity" category. Moreover, the program was presented at the 4 Weeks 4 Inclusion (4W4I), the inter-company event that from October to November 2021 saw over 200 companies engaged in a four-week consecutive marathon on inclusion. Sparkle’s collaboration with Ortygia Business School was further strengthened with the participation of a young manager in the "Mediterranean Leadership Journey", the Foundation’s flagship training course aimed at strengthening managerial skills.
