Telecom Italia has appointed consultant Cristoforo Morandini as its new chief regulatory and equivalence officer.

Morandini will manage the Italian incumbent’s new Regulatory Affairs and Equivalence department, which was created following the separation of its Public and Regulatory Affairs arm a few months ago.

The Regulatory Affairs and Equivalence unit manages relationships with national regulatory and antitrust authorities to guarantee and manage equivalence to all operators accessing the Telecom Italia network, a spokesperson for the company explained.

Morandini will report directly to Telecom Italia CEO Marco Patuano.

"Cristoforo Morandini has acquired significant experience in the world of regulatory and market analysis concerning the electronic communications sector, holding positions of particular importance in leading international consultancy companies," Telecom Italia said on Monday.

The newcomer is an economics and social sciences graduate and has worked for a number of consultancy firms, including Between – a firm he co-founded – and EY.
