Solid infrastructure is the backbone of any countries and principally critical to the continued growth of economy. Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), Nanang Hendarno showed his passions in infrastructure’s development to shape the industry by making some significant contributions. Several of his involvements were the initiation of Kauditan Cable Landing Station (CLS) Ground-breaking – Cable Communication System South East Asia – United States (SEA-US) and his participation as a panellist speaker in the annual Submarine Network World (SNW) 2016.

On Thursday, October 13, 2016, Nanang, accompanied by General Manager of Telkom Regional North Sulawesi, Maluku, and Gorontalo – Aristo Edward Pangaribuan, Director of Business Development of PT. Graha Sarana Duta (GSD) – Eris Sudariswan, Manager Transport East represent EGM DSO – Ridwan Kurniawan, and Vice Chief of Police Kema – Yopi Kemalludin, initiated Kauditan CLS Ground-breaking for SEA-US.

The Ground-breaking was a significant advancement of submarine cable system SEA-US construction, which expected to be completed on March 2017 and to be operational by July 2017. SEA-US will upsurge the internet connection speed and access content from USA by giving a direct connection from Kauditan, Manado – Indonesia to Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, and Los Angeles – USA.

“The SEA-US will correspondingly connected to other – in construction, Telkom’s Group submarine cable South East Asia – Middle East – Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE) 5 and Indonesia Global Gateway (IGG), which aligned to Telin’s vision in making Indonesia as the World’s Hub for Telecommunication, Information, Media, Edutainment, and Services. Thus making Kauditan – Manado a crucial location for International Gateway connecting South East Asia region to the USA” said Nanang.

Aristo, The Director of Business Development PT GSD, expressed his appreciations for this development. According to him, the construction will provide enormous benefits to the development of ICT in the area. “We will give as much supports as possible to reassure the consistent development of CLS. Please do not hesitate to coordinate with us if there’re any obstacles in the filed”, assured Aristo.

Continuing from Kauditan, in the annual event of SNW 2016 – a prestigious submarine cable event for vital industry’s players, held on October 18, 2016 in Suntec City Convention Centre Singapore, Nanang participated as a panel speaker in the discussion session of “Creating The Foundation for Asia’s Digital Silk Road”. During the session, the panel focused on the immense growth of Indonesia’s internet data, which will pleasingly attract OTT players to bring their contents to the country. With the aggressive development of Sea Cable Communication System (SSKL) in Indonesia, it will inevitability make Indonesia as a new ICT Hub in Asia.

During the discussion moderated by Michael Ruddy, Director of International Research, Terabit Consulting, Nanang explained the development of SEA-US, SEA-ME-WE 5, and IGG will generate an unique SKKL network connecting Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, and West Cost of USA through Indonesia maritime, making the only route available to bypass earthquake prone areas in South China Sea, Luzon Channel, and Japan. 

The construction of SEA-ME-WE 5, IGG, and SEA-US are parallel with Telkom Group’s international business development strategy to sustenance its vision and to support the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises in realizing the Indonesian President’s “Nawa Cita” vision to build Indonesia from Far West (Sabang) to the Far East (Merauke) as the framework of The Unitary Republic of Indonesia.
