Thailand on Tuesday announced the start of the second half of its 4G licence sale, in which it is auctioning off spectrum in the 900-MHz band.
The bidding process began at 9am local time on Tuesday and will run for 12 hours before participants will be given a break, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) revealed.
The regulator is conducting a simultaneous ascending bid auction in order to allocate two 900-MHz licences.
Four companies are participating in the process: AIS’s Advanced Wireless Network, True Move H Universal Communication, DTAC, and Jasmine International’s Jas Mobile Broadband.
The same four operators battled it out for 1800-MHz licences in part one of the Thai 4G auction. The process raised 80.78 billion baht (€2.1 billion) and AIS and True Move emerged victorious.
The NBTC on Tuesday said competition for the 900-MHz frequencies would be fierce.
