Country raises close to 100m from sale of 1800-MHz, 2.6-GHz frequencies.

The Czech Republic’s three main mobile network operators have acquired additional spectrum in the 1800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands.

The country’s telecom regulator revealed that it concluded a spectrum auction on Tuesday, raising 2.64 billion crowns (€98 million) in total.

"The auction included seven frequency [blocks] which were not sold in the previous tender and which will be used for the provision of mobile broadband," the Czech Telecommunication Office (CTU) announced.

O2 emerged as the biggest spender, picking up two 2.9-MHz blocks and one 5-MHz block of 1800-MHz airwaves, in addition to 25 MHz of unpaired 2.6-GHz spectrum, for CZK1.47 billion.

T-Mobile acquired 10 MHz of paired 2.6-GHz spectrum and 25 MHz of unpaired 2.6-GHz spectrum for CZK729.9 million, while Vodafone spent CZK442 million on a single 5-MHz block of 1800-MHz frequencies.

The CTU said it expects to officially allocated the spectrum to the telcos in the second half of this year, once they have made the required payments.
