Pyeongchang 5G
KT Corp has worked hard to drive the development of 5G mobile services, both in terms of standardisation and commercialisation. The South Korea-based operator presented its 5G vision at Mobile World Congress in 2015 and subsequently played a key role in establishing the PyeongChang 5G Specifications (P5G) alongside its global technology partners, ahead of the completion of 3GPP Release 15. Systems and devices based on P5G made early trial 5G services possible and allowed KT to contribute to 3GPP standardisation efforts. Its various trials built towards the provision of a live 5G service during the PyeongChang Olympics in February 2018.
The judging panel agreed that KT has made a significant contribution to 5G standardisation and the introduction of commercial services, demonstrating the wide range of possibilities the technology will enable and helping to make 5G a reality.
