Google on Tuesday announced the appointment of Ruth Porat as its new chief financial officer, replacing Patrick Pichette, who announced his decision to retire earlier this month.
Porat will take up her new role on 26 May, reporting to company co -founder and CEO Larry Page.
She currently serves as CFO of financial services giant Morgan Stanley, a company she joined in 1987.
"I’m delighted to be returning to my California roots and joining Google," Porat said, in a statement.
"Growing up in Silicon Valley, during my time at Morgan Stanley and as a member of Stanford’s board, I’ve had the opportunity to experience first hand how tech companies can help people in their daily lives," she added. "I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get started."
Page described Porat as a "creative, experienced and operationally strong executive" and said he looks forward to learning from her "as we continue to innovate in our core – from search and ads, to Android, Chrome and YouTube – as well as invest in a thoughtful, disciplined way in our next generation of big bets."
The CEO also paid tribute to outgoing CFO Pichette, thanking him for his "seven super-successful years" in the job.
Two weeks ago, Pichette announced his decision to retire in order to dedicate more time to his personal life.
He said he would remain with Google to help his successor settle in, something that "will take some time."
