Southeast Asia-United States (SEA-US) Submarine Cable

Telin, in partnership with five other international telecom companies, implemented the Southeast Asia-United States (SEA-US) submarine cable system in 2017, connecting Manado, Indonesia to Los Angeles, US across the Pacific. The cable system creates a unique route to provide speed and quality through its low-latency fibre cables. The system is designed to bypass earthquake-prone areas to reduce the likelihood of communications outages. It has 20 Tbps of capacity, using 100 Gbps technology from NEC.

Users of the network experience the lowest time delay compared to the existing route, as it only requires three hops to connect from Singapore to the US. Moreover, the SEA-US route directly connects with countries in Western Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia through the Indonesia Global Gateway (IGG) and then to the Western Europe, Middle East and Southeast Asia (SEA-ME-WE5) cabling route, thereby creating a competitive global network.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS
"Perhaps one of the most significant projects completed in 2017 and certainly the most important undersea cable project. It provides vastly improved connectivity to the Philippines and Indonesia in particular."

"An important project for connectivity in South East Asia."
