T-Mobile US on Tuesday announced it swung to a third-quarter net profit, as revenue climbed thanks once again to continued strong customer additions.

During the quarter, T-Mobile added 2.3 million customers, 843,000 of whom were branded postpaid phone customers, and 242,000 wer e branded postpaid mobile broadband customers. Branded prepaid net additions came in at 595,000, while wholesale net additions were 632,000.

That leaves T-Mobile with 61.2 million customers at the end of September, up from 52.9 million a year ago. The telco’s branded prepaid phone subscribers stand at 28.4 million, compared to 24.8 million in Q3 2014, and its branded prepay base has reached 17.1 million, compared to 16.1 million a year ago.

"We’ve had 10 quarters in a row with over 1 million net new customers, five with over a million branded postpaid customers and a total of 2.3 million new customers this quarter alone," noted T-Mobile US chief executive John Legere, in a statement.

For the full year, T-Mobile now expects to add 3.8 million-4.2 million branded postpaid customers, compared to its previous forecast of 3.4 million-3.9 million.

On the financial side, T-Mobile’s revenue jumped 6.8% year-on-year to US$7.8 billion. Operating expenses were flat year-on-year at $7.3 billion, resulting in an operating profit of $513 million.

T-Mobile swung to a net profit of $125 million from a year-earlier loss of $94 million.

"Our momentum is strong and our incredible customer growth is translating directly into solid financial growth which makes it crystal clear that putting customers first is just good business," Legere said.
