Press Release

Cardiff-based Next Generation Data (NGD) announced today it has become one of the first data centres outside London to go live with the new BT Wholesale Optical and Optical Connect National service which delivers 10Gb, nx10Gb and 100Gb Ethernet symmetric point to point connectivity.

This follows a major surge in cloud based services at NGD which in turn is creating an unprecedented growth in network traffic. With a direct connection to NGD’s data centre BT’s high performance optical solutions will support demand by offering customers a flexible, scalable and resilient solution including secure, uncontended bandwidth with zero jitter and packet loss.

Commented Nick Razey, CEO, Next Generation Data: “Our data centre is relied on by a rapidly increasing number of enterprise cloud users and service providers which makes the availability of high speed, highly resilient and secure network services a top priority. “NGD is delighted to be one of the first data centres offering BT’s optical network services and is in line with our commitment to providing customers the maximum choice of low latency fibre connectivity solutions.”

Three years ago NGD was selected as BT’s first data centre PoP as part of its 21CN Next Generation Ethernet Infrastructure.

Located in the Cardiff Capital Region, NGD is a purpose-built carrier-neutral Tier 3 facility offering 750,000 sq feet (gross internal area) of highly secure and cost-effective space housing up to 22,000 racks. These can be arranged into self-contained and colocation data halls of various sizes all with independent services, resilient power and cooling systems. NGD Europe’s environmentally-friendly high level technology infrastructure has been designed to meet and exceed the ever increasing demand for more computing power. Among its many features are a high capacity 180 MVA power supply direct from the super grid and sourced from 100 per cent renewable energy; and a variety of on-site high-speed, low latency carrier interconnects.
