Airtel has been in the satellite industry for more than two decades, during which time the technology has evolved from C band to KU band and on to KA band. Airtel has moved with the development of technology, complementing the growth in fibre networks. In order to cater to the growing demand for high throughput data networks, Airtel formed a partner-ecosystem network using its disruptive MEO satellites, offering fibre-like-performance with high-bandwidth and low latency. It provides integrated satcom and broadcast services to telecom, mobile network operator and broadcast customers, focusing on emerging markets.
Recent growth has been strong, with Airtel announcing a raft of new customer wins. Its winning awards entry included numerous case studies detailing the benefits of its technology and services to many of those customers. Going forward, Airtel believes satellite will not only serve as a transport media to connect underserved areas, but will also play a key role in M2M and IoT.
