Industrializing FTTH roll-outs means more automation in the design phases

Thanks to its exposure to one of the most dynamic markets in Europe, Setics felt early the need for design automation to be pushed to the ultimate limits. Setics Sttar Designer has already brought automation to a high level;. Sttar Automation Workbench is pushing these limits even further.
Working on customer cases with Setics Sttar Designer, we recognized the need to adapt design automation capabilities to address specific needs. A number of different situations where specifics are required became clear:
• Specific data handling: going from source data to data that are usable for automation may require repetitive treatment
• Complex architecture: some of them may require several runs of Sttar Designer addressing different network levels and applications
• Non-standard reports and outputs: producing specific Excel reports or other kind of diagrams, CAD outputs are also often needed for construction purpose.
• Process integration: the automation process may require integration with other systems, whether as sources or destination of produced data.
All these experiences led us to create the Sttar Automation Workbench offer, which is relying on various components: in addition to Setics Sttar Designer, a data flow engine and Setics Sttar Batch Engine, the scriptable automation engine of Sttar.
Implementing Automation Workbench is a 2 steps process:
On a first pilot project, Setics works with the customer to define and implement the Automation Workbench: a set of tools and processes that delivers a complete end to end design process, adapted to the particular client environment and constraints and maximizing automation as much as possible.
Once ready, Setics transfers the Automation Workbench to the client for further production usage of the workbench.
