Press Release

World Telecom Labs (WTL) today announced that it has helped improve the VoIP networks of iQela, a UK-based operator providing a variety of mobile services to businesses across the world.

A WTL virtualised session border controller (SBC) is now sitting in iQela’s cloud between the application servers of iQela, its customers and other carriers. The SBC has been designed to enhance security and improve the quality of VoIP calls. It supports a wide range of configurations so it is a straightforward process to connect both new customers and operators to iQela’s networks.

The SBC is deployed on a SaaS basis. This provides greater flexibility for iQela, minimising CAPEX investment and enabling it to grow, shrink or duplicate the system across new locations as the business evolves.

Bruno Musa, iQela’s CEO, said “We offer a rich set of proven B2B services that allow our partners to rapidly deliver business, SME and enterprise solutions to their clients, including virtual switchboard, unified communication and call recording. Making these work smoothly across multiple fixed and mobile networks can be challenging. That is why we needed a top class SBC.

WTL’s SBC manages all the VoIP signalling issues for us which means adding new service providers and carriers takes a fraction of the time it used to.

It has also made offering trials to new potential customers much easier and we are picking up new business as a result.”

iQela’s value-added businesses portfolio is based on the hosted mobile UC (Unified Communications) suite from Norway-based Gintel, a leading provider of carrier-grade business solutions.

WTL’s multi-award-winning portfolio of VoIP products have been deployed by operators across the world to provide competitive and reliable voice services that challenge the offerings of incumbent operators.

Leigh Smith, MD of WTL, said “We work with innovative and fast-growing operators across the world who are using VoIP to meet the growing demand for quality voice services. We understand their challenges and are able to customise our products to suit their individual requirements.

iQela cares about its customers and is investing heavily so it can continuously improve its offer and performance – and meet the rising demand from businesses for managed voice services.”
